He specialises in the initial public offerings (IPOs) and climate change he is known for his continuous research involvement in those field. Professor Gounopoulos has published in international journals including Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Management Studies, Financial Management, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting and Economic History Review among others. Professor Gounopoulos is an independent IPOs consultant and he is a collaborator of the Amsterdam Stock Exchange.
