Boutsinas Basilis

Basilis Boutsinas is Full Professor at the Department of Business Administration of the University of Patras since 2001. He received his diploma in “Computer Engineering & Informatics” in 1991 from the University of Patras, Greece. He also conducted studies in “Electronics Engineering” at the Technical Education Institute of Piraeus, Greece, and Pedagogics at Pedagogical Academy of Lamia, Greece. He received his Ph.D. on Knowledge Representation (a topic in AI) from the University of Patras in 1997. His primary research interests include intelligent information systems, data mining, business intelligence and knowledge representation. He is among the first educators that focused on teaching the above fields in the management science context (since 1999). He has also supervised many Ph.D. and master theses. Some of his research results have been included in early/introductory scientific literature for topics as the parallel Artificial Intelligence, the application of data mining to facility location problems and the application of data mining techniques to education. He has been a member of various scientific committees and the editorial boards of international journals, scientific conferences as well as national and international workshops. He is the author and co-author of more than 80 research papers published in scientific international journals or conference proceedings. He is also the author of two books. There are about 700 citations to his work. It is worth noting that among the people that refer to his work are some of the top scientists in the field of Artificial Intelligence. He is the Director of the Management Information Systems & Business Intelligence Lab (MISBILAB) at the University of Patras since 2009 and a founding member of the Artificial Intelligence Institute of the University Research Center of the University of Patras. He has managed various research projects at the University of Patras, funded with more than 3 million euros by national and European funds in the last five years mostly through competitive bids. In 2018 he has been elected as the Dean of the Business School at the University of Patras and he also served as chairman of the Department of Business Administration and vice president of the Research Committee of the University of Patras. He worked as a consultant for various organizations.
